Metropolitan Theophilus (Pashkovksy) was born in Russia and served as a missionary in America, 1894-1906. He returned to the United States from Russia in 1922, was Bishop of Chicago, 1922-1931, and Bishop of San Francisco, 1931-1934. Elected Metropolitan in 1934, he served until his death in 1950.
